Are you overwhelmed by estate planning and unsure where to start? The Cordova Community Foundation (CCF), in partnership with the Alaska Community Foundation (ACF) and local attorney Molly Mulvaney, is offering a free Wills & Estate Planning Workshop on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pioneer Igloo.
This workshop is for everyone, regardless of the size or complexity of their estate. If you have a bank account, vehicle, home, retirement account, or other assets, you have an estate worth planning for. Molly Mulvaney will share practical information and free resources to help you begin the estate planning process.
Most of the workshop will focus on wills and estate planning, with plenty of time for questions. The workshop will also introduce the concept of legacy giving. A legacy gift is a charitable contribution made through your estate plan, allowing you to support causes you care about long into the future. There is no obligation to leave a charitable gift to attend this workshop. ACF and CCF simply want to provide resources and information so that people who love Cordova can learn about the many ways they can support their community for generations to come. A legacy gift can be as simple as naming a local charity as a beneficiary of a retirement account, life insurance policy, or bank account. This can take as little as ten minutes!
Liz Senear has made a legacy gift commitment to CCF and shared why: “For a remote city like Cordova where essentially everything happens within the community through its nonprofits and other organizations, the kind of support offered by CCF is invaluable. There aren’t many places our nonprofits and great projects can go for funding. With gifts to CCF, the money stays in Cordova forever. That’s a legacy I want to leave to the town I love.”
All gifts, including legacy gifts, to CCF are invested in a permanent endowment. The original gift is never spent, while a portion of the earnings is distributed each year to support local nonprofits, community prokects, and initiatives that enhance quality of life in Cordova.
Legacy giving experts from ACF, staff and board members of CCF, and Molly Mulvaney will be available to answer all your questions and concerns around estate plans and legacy giving at the Wills & Estate Planning Workshop on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Pioneer Igloo. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
